Lucknow: In a remarkable medical achievement, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Vivekananda Polyclinic and Institute of Medical Sciences successfully performed a highly complex laparoscopic myomectomy on June 24, removing a rare giant fibroid measuring nearly 15 cm from the broad ligament of a patient.
Broad ligament fibroids of this size are uncommon and are considered among the most technically challenging gynaecological conditions to treat due to their location and proximity to vital pelvic structures. The large size and intricate anatomical position of the tumour made the surgery particularly demanding, requiring advanced surgical expertise and meticulous planning.
The minimally invasive procedure was successfully carried out by senior consultant gynaecologist Dr Kanupriya Jindal and her dedicated surgical and anaesthesia team. Despite the complexity of the case, the fibroid was removed entirely through laparoscopic surgery, eliminating the need for a traditional open abdominal operation.
